A 2026 school of smartphones and safety drills
Flanagan told TVLine that his son’s approaching move into high school helped him find a reason for the new adaptation. On screen, Carrie passes through a metal detector and encounters a safety drill on her first day. Nick Caruso · 2026.10.06

Praise for performances and character depth, reservations about pace and horror
TheWrap’s Amelia Emberwing praises Howell and Sloyan, and finds the use of Carrie’s unfamiliar perspective on present-day school dangers effective. The Direct’s Jeff Ewing likewise credits the cast with revealing the complexity of Carrie, Margaret and Chris. He also finds some stretches slow or repetitive across eight episodes, and wishes Sue and Carrie’s father had received more interior detail.
